Koinobori - Japanese Carp Streamers Koinobori - japonais carpe streamers

Today (May 5th) is Children’s Day in Japan, and that means today’s Word of the Day is 鯉幟 ( koinobori ). Aujourd'hui (Mai 5ème) est la Journée de l'enfant au Japon, et que signifie aujourd'hui le mot du jour est鲤帜(koinobori). 鯉 (koi) means “carp” and 幟 (nobori) means something like “flag”, so 鯉幟 ( koinobori ) translates into English as “ carp streamer “.鲤(koi) signifie "carpe" et帜(nobori) signifie quelque chose comme "pavillon", de sorte鲤帜(koinobori) traduit en anglais comme "carpe".
Japanese families (who have boys) put these carp streamers up to celebrate boys. Familles japonaises (qui ont garçons) mettre ces banderoles de la carpe pour célébrer les garçons. My wife and I had a son last year, so we got some. Ma femme et moi avons un fils l'année dernière, ce qui nous a quelques-uns.
At the top of the pole are 矢車 ( yaguruma ). En haut du mât sont矢车(yaguruma). 矢 means “arrow” and 車 means “car” or “wheel”.矢signifie «flèche» et车signifie "voiture" ou "roue". If you look closely, you will see that the wheels are spoked with arrows, hence 矢車. Si vous regardez attentivement, vous verrez que les roues sont à rayons avec des flèches, d'où矢车. The koinobori are sold in sets of four. Le koinobori sont vendus en séries de quatre. At the top is a plain old wind sock and beneath it are three carp windsocks. Not cheap by any means, but you only have to buy them once, you use them year after year, and up close they are actually pretty freaking cool. You hang your koinobori at the beginning of May, and then take them down on June 5th, one month after Children’s Day. I love seeing koinobori around Japan but had no idea that they cost so much! J'aime voir koinobori autour du Japon, mais n'avaient aucune idée que ces coûts étaient si élevés! When I lived in Hawaii as a child, we would make carp streamers out of construction paper and yarn for Children’s Day. It was interesting how many Japanese customs we studied in Hawaii, although now that I think about it a large number of my teachers there were Japanese. @thomas: Yes, it was for Japanese Children’s Day. @ Thomas: Oui, il a été japonais pour la Journée de l'enfant. It was not any official holiday in any sense, but something we did in school. Il n'était pas jour férié dans n'importe quel sens, mais quelque chose nous avons fait à l'école. Hawaii was easily the most multi-cultural place I’d ever lived. Hawaï était de loin le plus multi-lieu culturel je jamais connu.
