Multibabel – Computer Translation Fun
By thomas on Oct 26, 2007 in Language Fun
Rikker over at Language Scraps has made a great find: Multibabel. Just type in an english sentence and it will translate it back and forth between several languages and English until you end up with a machine-translated mess! Here’s my entry:
Original English Text:
I want to eat apple pie.Translated to French:
Je veux manger le pâté en croûte de pomme.Translated back to English:
I want to eat meat pie of apple.Translated to German:
Ich möchte Fleischtorte des Apfels essen.Translated back to English:
I would like to eat meat cake of the apple.Translated to Italian:
Vorrei mangiare la torta della carne della mela.Translated back to English:
I would want to eat the cake of the meat of the apple.Translated to Portuguese:
Eu quereria comer o bolo da carne da maçã.Translated back to English:
I would want to eat the cake of the meat of the apple.Translated to Spanish:
Desearía comer la torta de la carne de la manzana.Translated back to English:
It would wish to eat the cake of the meat of the apple.
Would it now?
Give it a try and post your funny results in the comments! Multibabel

(I forgot at first to attribute where I found the site through, so check out Notes from a Linguistic Mystic for some further analysis.)
Now for more mind-boggling machine translation fun:
Knock knock.
Effect of the effect.
Who’s there?
Here who is?
Orange.
Orange.
Orange who?
Orange those?
Orange you going to open the door? It’s freezing out here!
The orange, that one corresponds he to extreme him to open the door? It is congealed here to the external part!
Computers are so smart.

“Computers are so smart.”
I’d like to see what you can come up with when YOU try to translate between so many languages.
