This is the exact trick i use. It's very common in japan, though i live in Canada! Nice explanation with samourai, i just learned to associate it with 11 even if i didnt' know why! I have no idea where I got this poem for, but it has stuck with me: "30 days have September, April, June, And November, All the rest have 31..." It goes on to explain February, but because that part is obvious to me I skip over it. I have always remembered those months from a poem.
