It takes a really concerted and continuous effort. It depends how well I do on level 2 this year, whether I think I have enough time to prepare, and whether I am up for another round of studying for the JLPT. I doubt I'll take it in the summer. It was a really good experience, especially since the test is so well broken down into the various sub-skills of language. The only thing they're missing of course is spoken discourse. Really good. For listening, what I did: just watching heaps of series and the news. The news is one thing that will help you a lot. And I mean just listening hours and hours.
